sf rec: hazie’s
Haye’s Valley is a neighborhood near downtown SF that spans a few blocks and has a slew of shops and restaurants and of course, bars. Me and my best friend Dylan, who I frequent the city with weekly came across this bar, Hazie’s, appropriate quip for Hayes Valley, before we went to my birthday dinner at Suppekuche that I mentioned last week. It really looks like any or most bars you would find in the city: it’s trendy, atmospheric and full of local white tech boys. Thankfully we’re not trying to catch any of those, just a good cocktail. Anyways, I digress, we stopped by for a quick drink to sip while we hit our vases and Parliaments and to re-hash the same gossip that’s been circulating for over a year now. Surprise, surprise.
We certainly didn’t fit the bill of the ahem uniform that goes with the Hayes crowd. Which would be Todd’s flats, a cardigan and some sort of puffer vest which to me still serves no real purpose. No, me and Dylan were clad in leather, smokey eye makeup and our Proenza Schouler and Gucci Belt bags. Looking to grab the cheapest drink on the menu, or maybe just our signature drink, a margarita, we decided we need to try something new, you know for personal development and all. What that should’ve looked like was us not gossiping, spending money on another bag or even maybe, I don’t know, stopping our nicotine addiction. Instead, we tried a new drink. Dylan ordered the “Maluma Martini” which is basically an espresso martini. The difference between a regular espresso martini and the Maluma is that, well there isn’t one except that it’s the best damn espresso martini I’ve had to date. I ended up ordering the “Ride the Lightning” cocktail which is infused jalapeño, habanero Casa Migos, fresh agave syrup, cucumber syrup and cilantro. Let’s just say I was riding something that night.
Hazie’s also offers a brunch menu and dinner, which we’ve yet to try because each time we go back we are usually broken and we already know we wanna ride the lightning with Maluma. However, I do plan on having dinner and drinks there next time I go so I’ll report back on what I ordered. With most bars, I don’t really remember the ones I went to or if the drinks were all that great but the atmosphere of even being in beautiful. Hayes Valley and the quality of drinks (and company) is a great place that I’ve come back to so many times and it’s worthy of being one of my top SF recommendations. It’s also great to shop other stores after like Oak + Fort, Undefeated, Metier and Amour Vert. The only downside is that they close at 10p on the weekdays but stay open until 2a on Saturday and Sundays. Plus, if you’re driving to Hayes, I’ve never had any trouble parking a few blocks away and trust, for SF that’s a win. Let me know if you decide to visit and let me know what other cocktails and my fancy friend should try.
